WHAT IS THE CORE??

AND WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO “ME”??

The CORE is a group of muscles that enable stability, powerful and accurate movements that enhance all body movements in sport and day to day activities.

What makes up the CORE?

  • Transversus Abdominis
  • Multifidi and deep muscles within the back
  • Diaphragm
  • Pelvic Floor Muscles

1. Transversus Abdominis

  • Is the “corset muscle” of the spine and pelvis
  • It contracts in anticipation of body movement to protect spinal joints, ligaments, discs and nerves

2. Multifidi

  • These are short muscles on the sides of each vertebra
  • There main function is back stability

3. Pelvic floor and diaphragm

  • These work together with the Transverse Abdominis and the Multifidi to create flexibility and stability around your lumbar spine in ALL positions

Strengthening of our CORE will prevent injury to the spine, pelvis and lower back. This will enhance fitness for everyone irrespective of age, sex or fitness.
