What is Cross-Training?

Cross- training is any athletic training in a sport other than the athlete’s usual sport.

The goal is to improve overall performance. It takes advantage of the particular effectiveness of one training method to negate the short comings of another thus eliminating imbalance in the muscles.

Cross-training is good for anyone. Right from beginners wanting to get fit to the experienced athlete wanting to move their fitness to the next level.

So Why Cross-train? It:

  • Rehabilitates injuries
  • Improves fitness
  • Promotes recovery
  • Enhances motivation
  • Rejuvenates the mind and body during breaks from formal training
  • Helps to stay fit during pregnancy

Helps to prevent overuse injuries – your body is not made to continuously do the same thing which can cause injuries to your ankles, knees or lower back etc.

Prevent “beating up” your joints, muscles and connective tissue. So if you are a runner swim, walk and weight train.

For the rehabilitation of injuries- change and adapt your training program by running in the pool, cycling, doing Pilates etc.

By getting fitter;

  • one enhances muscle efficiency
  • increases power
  • increases endurance and stamina

Promote active recovery from injuries- by rest, eating correctly and hydrating well.

This all enhances motivation- STOPPING the boredom of repetitive, routine training. We humans hate the monotony of routine and are turned on by variety!!

THUS Add a swim or a CrossFit class or run or cycle or weight train or box or try a martial art. PLAN to get FIT but do it SAFELY. Most of all ENJOY yourself and avoid injury.
